The world is a changing place, and as parents, it is hoped that it will change for the better. It can be very easy to tun on the television and despair for our children’s future with a broadening political divide polarising society and the climate crisis threatening the existence of humankind of the planet as a whole. It can feel like a scary time trying to raise children in such a volatile world.
But, our young people offer a new alternative to the world. They will bring a new set of values and skills to the table, and it is hoped that they will look after and improve the world in a much better way than previous generations before them may have done.
It is therefore important that our children are all raised with a positive attitude and with the skills that they need to go out and make the world a better place. This is something that should begin at home, and as parents, we are all responsible for the world view that our children inherit.
Teaching Lessons Of Equality

While there is still a great deal of inequality in the world, it is important that you celebrate the great strides that society has made in the past at overcoming many of the problems it has faced. You can teach your children all about the suffrage movement, and how far women have come in the last hundred years. It is important that you let them know that there is still room for improvement, but they can be involved in making the world a better place. Instilling in your children the notion that girls can go on to achieve anything that they want in this world is important. For young girls it important that you know How To Empower And Inspire The Next Generation Women, and for young boys, the focus should be ensuring that they understand that women are equal to men in every respect in life.
Teaching tolerance to others regardless of background is important. Your children may come into contact with the views of other children who may have picked up problematic or inappropriate behaviours at home. Showing your children that they need to treat everyone as equal is important as it will give them the confidence to stand up for people who are not being treated fairly, and it will also prevent your child from getting involved in bullying through peer pressure.
It is important that you have full and frank conversations surrounding consent with your children. You should ensure that you handle this topic from both sides. That saying no is your prerogative, and from the other point of view where someone’s consent should be respected. This can be a challenging subject to tackle, however, it is a very important one from all sides. You want your children to grow up feeling safe in their relationships with others, you will want them to be strong and independent and you will want your children to grow up with respect for others. These are lessons that can only be taught from a young age, and you may need to revisit topics such as these periodically and allow your children to ask questions so that they can develop a full understanding for themselves.
Social media, movies, advertising, and TV will all provide notions that seek to re-affirm age-old issues surrounding equality. By having conversations surrounding these subjects, you will be able to educate them and let them see that the world that society shows do not have to be the one that your children will live in.
Offering A New Hope For The Environment

We often look at the state of the world after the last century or so of industrialisation, and wonder what we can do to fix it. There are many things that you can be doing at home to reduce your carbon footprint, and if your children are involved in the process and understand the importance of this, it will be something they will continue to do for their entire life.
Think about attempting to move to become a zero-waste household. Involving your children in decisions when shopping will help them to understand the complex issues that surround recycling and waste.
Teach your children about turning off the power and light switches when they are not using them. If your children understand where power comes from and the ways that they can make sure that they are using the greenest energy, and not wasting it will help them.
There are countless ways that you can reduce the carbon footprint of your family, other things that you may want to consider is swapping out your car for a hybrid, or electric vehicle. You may also want to think about reducing the amount of meat and dairy that you are consuming too.
Mental Health And Your Child

Talking about mental health issues when you are suffering from them can be very difficult. Children won’t understand what it is they are feeling at times. Anxiety and depression can start to come on from a very young age, and it will be something that a suffer may carry with them for life.
With many of us developing mental health problems at some point in our lives, having the coping strategies in place from a very young age will mean that it will become second nature to deal with these matters in the way that suits us as soon as the symptoms appear.
Whether you suspect that your child may be struggling with complicated feelings like depression or not, it is still good to talk. Encouraging your child to be open with you about how they feel will help in terms of managing their feelings throughout life. It will also mean that you will have a strong bond and one which will allow you to have a greater understanding of your own children’s thoughts and feelings. You will, therefore, be in a better place to understand their feelings as they appear to you, and then to act on them as required.
