After the success of taking the kids to see Guess How Much I Love You earlier this week, today we returned to Waterside Arts Centre to watch AAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Dinosaurs, written and performed by Dommy B.

We weren’t completely sure what to expect. We knew Dommy B (or Dominic Berry as he is also known) is an award winning poet but I wasn’t sure how his stories would translate onto a stage. I was also a bit worried whether one man on a stage would be enough to keep the kids entertained.
I needn’t have worried!
Dom was engaging and enthusiastic from the moment we took our seats. He took the time to speak to all the families as we arrived, and asked the children about their favourite dinosaurs. He was clearly a natural entertainer and brilliant with the kids.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Dinosaurs is a delightfully silly tale about trolls, dragons and dinosaurs. What children wouldn’t love that?! My three found the story, and Dom himself, hilarious. My nine year old is notoriously hard to please, and so it was lovely to see him chuckling away.
The show is interactive, and the audience are encouraged to join in with the rhymes. The children were also asked to answer questions, and their answers were incorporated in the poems throughout the show. It was brilliant how quickly Dom could think of the rhymes, especially with the some of the funny answers the kids came up with.
There was a short interval where Dom’s books were available for purchase, which he signed for each child. One of the books sold out, which is testament to how much the kids obviously all loved the show. Anything that gets my kids eager to read is a win with me! Ben has been engrossed in his since we came home!

Dom was charismatic and naturally funny, but also inspiring too. He told the children if they found something they enjoyed and worked really hard, they too could have a job they loved. He told them that they may receive knock backs but the key is to never give up. It obviously made an impression on Ben, as when asked what the best thing in the world was later in the show, he didn’t respond with sweets, or rabbits like I was expecting. He said “never giving up”.
You can’t really ask for more than that!
If you get the opportunity to see one of Dom’s shows, we would highly recommend it.

I was given complimentary tickets for the purpose of this review, but as always opinions are my own.

This sounds like such a fun time – I know some kids who would absolutely love this! And I must confess to being a bit of a dinosaur fan myself 🙂
Sounds great – who doesn’t love dinosaurs?! Again, a nice treat for the children to go to the theatre twice. Glad they enjoyed it.
There seem to be so many great, child friendly shows available to go and watch – it is just brilliant. Glad the children are really into theatre.
This sounds so lovely and would be perfect for my double trouble. I would like to take them to more things like this as I am sure they would really love it
Sounds like so much fun! It’s definitely something I would take my younger two for a day outing. Thanks for sharing x
That sounds like such a brilliant show, and what an inspiring message for the kids to come away with! We haven’t taken them to a poetry event so might just have to check this out!
My kids were huge dinosaur fans and this would have entertained them even beyond the performance.
That sounds like a great show! There needs to be more engaging shows for the young ones to get into and be inspired by!
Sounds like a lot of fun! i love dinosaurs and have never seen a kid disliking them. Dinos are cool!
if it is interactive then I like that! Mine would love this anyway because of the dinosaurs, no doubt. yours looks really into it!
This sounds fabulous. We need to take the girls to more live shows.
Oh this sounds fantastic! I bet my boys would love this, I’ll have to look him up! x
It sounds like you all had a great time – It is so important to take kids to live theatre especially humour. I’ve not been to Sale Waterpark despite living a few miles away so I’ll be checking out their programme.
I’ve been to ‘one man shows’ before and have always been so amazed at how entertaining they are! I really need to get to more shows with the kids x
That sounds like such a fun show to see! Dinosaurs are a firm favourite here and any show that has rhyme and poems running through it is a winner for me 🙂
Sounds like a super day out! I think my kids would LOVE this!
I can barely get my younger brother away from the tv this would be a nice way for him to get some traditional entertainment!
This sounds like such a brilliant performance! I’ve taken my girls to thr theatre once and they really loved it. This would be a great second show to take them to x
