Blackpool Tower Dungeon Review.
During our visit to Blackpool back in May, we wanted to see as many attractions as we could squeeze into our three day break. We were delighted to be offered Blackpool BIG Tickets so we could experience Blackpool at it’s best.

Adults save 49% and children 53% by using the BIG ticket and visiting each attraction so it’s well worth it.
Blackpool Tower Dungeon Review : Location
The Dungeons are located underneath the famous Blackpool Tower, you can’t miss it! We walked down from our hotel at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, but there is a large carpark around the back of the tower, near Coral Island.

If you don’t have a combination ticket such as the BIG ticket, it costs from £11.50 for children and £14 for adults. These prices are if you buy online, it’s slightly more if you just pay on the day.
Blackpool Tower Dungeon Review : Initial Impressions
There are actors outside The Dungeons to try and entice people in but it had the opposite effect on my son! He took one look and decided he didn’t want to go in! As we entered we were told that it was aimed at aged 8 and over but obviously parents are to use their own discretion. Therefore my husband waited with our seven and four year old and my son (10) and I went in.
It’s dark and creepy as you walk in and I’m in no doubt my timid 7 year old would have been terrified so I’m pleased he chose to sit this one out!
Blackpool Tower Dungeon Review : Our Experience
The first actor we encountered was a jester, who told us tales of The Dungeons and led us deeper into the bottom of the tower. It was at this point my son, who likes to see he’s tough, grabbed hold of my hand!
During the experience you go enter several rooms all led by different actors. It’s basically like interactive theatre with lots of audience participation (regardless of how willing the participant may be!) My son and I attempted to hide at the back at each room to avoid being picked upon but I was still spotted and charged as a witch!
I don’t want to give too much away but the torture room was particularly entertaining as was the doctors room. All the actors were absolutely fantastic and told their stories well. They were engaging and had a great mix of humour and creepiness. The special effects were also very impressive.
We laughed and jumped at several points in each room. It’s a clever way of educating visitors about the local history along with the plague, torturers, Vikings, witches and smugglers.
At the end of the experience is a ‘drop’ ride. You have to be 1.4 metres to ride it If you don’t wish to go on it, you just bypass it and end up in the dungeon pub, The Red Lion! This was where we found my husband and little ones waiting for us! There’s also a gift shop on the way out selling a variety of creepy merchandise.
Blackpool Tower Dungeon Review : Summary
We had a great time visiting the Blackpool Tower Dungeon. It’s certainly something different from usual days out with kids! I have no doubt my younger children wouldn’t have enjoyed it so I think the over 8 years recommendation is wise. We laughed, we jumped and it reignited my son’s love of gruesome history. I thoroughly recommend it.

Oooooh – that looks fun! Mind you I reckon my younger son might not have gone in a few years ago . He’s a bit braver now though and plays rugby!!
I went to the London Dungeons many years ago – this looks very similar. My kids would absolutely love this, looks like good fun.

I’ve only ever been to the Dungeon in Edinburgh, and I’m afraid to say it’s an hour of my life I will never get back, lol. Just not my sense of humour. But I have to add I went without kids, just with my brother. I think my boys would actually enjoy it.
Sounds like such a fun day, I think I’d be the one waiting in the pub though!

I’ve not been to Blackpool since I was a student … I bought a large stick of rock, and the crude comments i got about what I could do with the rock scared the heck out of me!
