We’ve made no secret that we’re saving for our dream home. Our lovely little house we bought back in 2015 is now a little too small for three growing children. My husband and I have moved house a lot during our relationship and neither of us is now keen to do to move more than necessary. We want our next house move to be our last. Our forever home.

When it comes to our dream house, we’ve always known we wanted four bedrooms, a bedroom for us and each of our children. The boys currently share a room and while they insist they’re happy for now, we are well aware this could change when they hit the teenage years. We would also like a big garden and a bigger sized bathroom than the pocket sized one we have currently.

However the events of 2020 have meant we’ve added a new wish for our dream house. The current pandemic has meant my husband is working from home full time, while I obviously do my blog work from home. My husband currently does his work from a small desk in our bedroom while I work on my laptop in the living room. Not ideal, especially when the children aren’t at school. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to work in peace and our very own home office would be the stuff of dreams.

However with house prices at an all time high, we really do need to focus on saving if we’re to afford a house with four bedrooms and an office! While it may mean we can sell our house for more, it also means the house we wish to buy is likely to be more. We’ve used a mortgage calculator which gave us a realistic idea of how much we can borrow so we have something to aim for.

There’s so many things to consider when buying a new home, including solicitor’s fees and stamp duty. Although there is a current stamp duty holiday until March 2021, we’re aware that when we’re ready to move in approximately 18 months time, the government will have withdrawn the holiday.

So in the meantime we’ll continue to save and hopefully some day soon we’ll be able to move the workstation from our bedroom!
