It can be challenging to get everything you need for your trip in a campervan. Most campervans were once traditional vans that have been outfitted to fit a camping lifestyle. That means they aren’t huge and the amount of storage space you have is likely limited. While you will definitely have to think carefully about what to bring and what to leave behind, there are some ways to maximise storage in your campervan so that you have a place for everything you need.

Install Hooks

Not only can hooks add some visual appeal to the inside of your campervan, but they also make it easy to hang items to keep them off the counters and floors. They’re ideal for jackets and coats, sports gear, cleaning supplies and much more. For heavier items, be sure you screw the hooks into the side of the campervan. Hooks with sticky backing should work for items that don’t weigh so much.

Use Magnetic Strips

Much like hooks, magnetic strips increase your storage space by enabling you to hang things on the wall to keep them organised and out of your way when you aren’t using them. They’re great for cooking tools, scissors, and office supplies. You can also glue magnets to just about anything and then hang it on your magnetic strip.

Choose Nesting Dishes

The more items you can keep inside other items, the more space you’ll have. Nesting dishes make sense for your campervan because you will have the tools you need to prepare meals without each dish needing its own space in the cabinet. Nesting bowls are ideal for meal prep, but can also be used to eat cereal, soup and other meals. Nesting saucepans, measuring cups and spoons and plates are other ideal options to add to your campervan.

Install Bed Platforms

Another simple way to create more space in your campervan is to put your bed on a platform. That way you have room underneath for storage. You can keep important items in plastic bins or bags and slide them in and out, as needed. Under the bed is the perfect place to keep clothing, extra bedding and toiletries because they’ll be easy to get to but will be out of the way when you aren’t using them.

Opt for Flip Top Storage Benches

You’ll need a place to sit inside your campervan and a bench is an ideal choice. Installing benches with seats that flip up and down gives you some extra, much-needed storage space. You can keep towels, dishes, cooking supplies, clothes or anything else that fits inside your benches so they are easy to get to when you need them, but aren’t cluttering up space when they aren’t in use.

Nooks and Crannies

Make judicious use of every available space for sticking things in. Putting things inside of other things is a must. You might for example put sandals or leisure shoes inside your wellingtons. Keep non-essential items in places like under the front seats.

Campervan electrics should also be carefully planned and stored, ensuring that cables, chargers and portable power solutions don’t take up valuable living space or become difficult to access when you need them.

One of the most important tasks when you have a campervan is to be sure you have adequate, but cheap campervan insurance. These papers can be safely stowed in the glovebox so you know where they are and they aren’t getting lost in the shuffle of items in the rest of the van.
