So the countdown is on to the general election. Who doesn’t love a good Christmas election?! I’d much rather be curled up with a mince pie watching It’s A Wonderful Life than listening to the constant bickering and debates that are on our tv screens right now. And yet I have been listening. As tiresome as I may find the propaganda, backstabbing and general gibberish being spouted by our would-be leaders, the importance of general elections is not lost on me.

It’s been a little over 100 years since (some) British women were given the vote and we mustn’t neglect our responsibilities. We owe it to our ancestors who fought for our right to vote. It’s something that can so easily be taken for granted, but it’s our duty to ensure that right is respected.

If you’ve read my previous blog posts you’ll know I definitely identify as a feminist, and while there is still work to be done to achieve real gender equality, I consider myself lucky to be part of a generation who does (mostly) respect and honour women.

My ten year old recently commented on one of the tea towels which sparked the conversation about women’s rights and he couldn’t believe just how different things were for women 100 years ago. The towels serve as a constant reminder just how much we have to be thankful for.
