It’s that time of year, the well-loved Christmas tree is about to make an appearance. So many of us love the smell and authentic nature of real Christmas trees, but how do we protect our wood floors from it? Although it’s the most wonderful time of the year, it is also the most expensive, so we don’t want to be worrying about having to replace or repair our beloved wood flooring!
Before you even buy your tree, make sure that you’ve chosen where you’re going to place it and get it ready. Ensure that you have enough room to manoeuvre it so it doesn’t scratch any surfaces, including your floor. Consider purchasing a matt under your tree to stop direct contact between it and the floor. There are Christmas themed ones available if you want to really go to town…
It’s also important to shake your tree to remove any dead needles that can drop on your floor and cause damage, of course do this outside and well away from your floors. Your aim is to keep rouge needles off your floors as much as you can. Placing a piece of material under where you’re going to put your tree to catch any debris so you can dispose of them easily without worrying about damage.
If you’ve not decided to go for a matt, then make sure you are very careful when placing your tree stand down. We’d say place your tree stand where it’s going to remain, instead of dragging your tree across your floor – of course this can cause scratches!
Removal of the tree can be a chore. So save yourself from any extra worries by wrapping your tree in a plastic bag or old sheets. This will stop any needles from spreading everywhere and don’t drag your tree across your house! This is a two-man job…
Although these tips may seem obvious, you’d be surprised by how many people don’t think about the damage your tree can do to your floors!
