I’m always trying to teach my children about equality and diversity and the importance of having inspirational role models to look up to. One effective way to educate them and introduce them to new role models is through books. The Little People Big Dreams book series are aimed at young children and tell the stories of influential people from all walks of life. Each book provides an age-appropriate overview of the lives of pioneering figures, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. Each of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream. This makes the series ideal for inspiring the next generation of people who will change the world.
The series offers stories either as board books which are perfect for babies and toddlers or as hardback books for those starting to read. I read the hardback versions with my five year old daughter and the simplified text and bold illustrations have her captivated. The book designs are simple yet beautiful to look at featuring colourful covers and a recognisable black spine.
The Black Lives Matter movement highlights the importance of educating children about the struggles the black community have faced in the past, and the prejudices they still face today. The story of Rosa Parks seemed a perfect place to start.

The Rosa Parks book is a fantastic introduction to the life and pioneering actions of the ‘Mother of the Freedom Movement.’ It talks about her life during segregation in Alabama and the courage and strength she showed when standing up for her rights. Rosa’s decision to refuse to give up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott which had a huge impact on civil rights and ultimately led to the end of segregation on public transport.
Her story of determination and courage is such an inspirational one, and an important for our children to be aware of.

When it comes to being unapologetically unique, David Bowie was an inspiration to many. His songwriting talent and musical skill made him one of the all-time greatest artists, inspiring multiple generations.

My youngest son is more creative than sporty and loves art and nature far more than kicking a football around. It is people like David Bowie who have led the way in showing others they can be whoever they want to be. His ability to constantly reinvent himself and his confidence to change his persona and appearance made him the ultimate idol.

Along with the books, Little People Big Dreams also offer games and other fun learning tools which provide even more ways to make the lives of these role models accessible to children.
I’m offering my readers the chance to win the brilliant Little People Big Dreams Matching Game, which focuses on inspirational women, from Mother Teresa to Audrey Hepburn. To be in with a chance of winning, simply enter via the app below.
