Hilton Templepatrick Hotel Review

For our trip to Northern Ireland in May, we did our usual research for hotels that could accommodate all five of us the one room. As usual it was slim pickings! However we found that the Hilton in Templepatrick could fit us all in. We booked directly through the Hilton website as we found if you join Hilton Honours (for free!) you get the best rate. We booked the room on a bed and breakfast basis.

Hilton Templepatrick Hotel Review : Location

The hotel is situated in Templepatrick, around 20 minutes drive from the centre of Belfast. We flew to Belfast International and hired a car. It’s just a 15 minute drive from the airport. We found the location ideal for us as we used the car to explore Northern Ireland. If you were hoping to explore Belfast without your own vehicle, I’d perhaps recommend a hotel a little more central.

During our stay we visited Game of Thrones Exhibition Belfast, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Giants Causeway and Castle Ward, amongst others.

Hilton Templepatrick Hotel Review : Initial Impressions

The hotel is also a golf and country club so it’s set in quite a secluded location. The surroundings are lovely and the hotel has its own carpark with plenty of spaces. It looks lovely from the outside, especially in the evenings (although some of the letters didn’t light up!)

The lady on reception was friendly and accommodating and explained the hotel layout to us. We were on the second floor and there were two lifts or stairs if you’d preferred. The reception area, as we found with the rest of the hotel, was immaculate.

Hilton Templepatrick Hotel Review : Room

Hotels that claim to sleep five people can, in our experience, be a bit of a tight squeeze. This certainly wasn’t the case here! The room was HUGE! It was basically two rooms with just the one door! There was a huge king bed on one side, and another separated by a wall. The boys were happy to share one of them. There was also a double sofa bed for our daughter. The sofa-bed wasn’t made up and there was no bedding available but a quick call down to reception resolved that problem. Even with the sofa-bed made up, there was still plenty of room.

There was a table with drawers which would be perfect for business travellers and a wardrobe with plenty of space for all our clothes. The view from the window was lovely and it’s hard to fault the room.

My only slight criticism was the room was quite dark. There was no “big light” just smaller lamps and side lights. While I appreciate the “ambience” such lamps can create, it wasn’t ideal when we were searching under the sofa-bed for our daughters stuffed dog in the dark! However this is such a minor complaint, the room itself was lovely.

The bathroom was also a good size and contained complimentary Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries. I would have liked a heated towel rail for the swimming items but again, this is me being picky.

Hilton Templepatrick Hotel Review : Facilities

The facilities at the hotel are great. They have a health club, indoor pool, spa and sauna all onsite. The pool is lovely, with loungers and chairs for those just wanting to observe. They provide towels and the changing rooms are immaculate.

There’s a playroom close to the restaurant aimed at younger children, including a variety of toys and games to keep them entertained.

There’s also facilities for business users but obviously we didn’t use those!

Hilton Templepatrick Hotel Review : Dining

There’s both a lounge bar and restaurant onsite within the hotel. We used the restaurant each morning for breakfast. The breakfast was buffet style with the traditional English breakfast, along with cereals, yoghurts, fruits and pastries. We loved the breakfast and the restaurant was large enough to never feel overcrowded.

The lounge bar sells drinks including cocktails and different food to what is on offer in the restaurant. The lounge bar also shows live sports games, much to my husbands delight as we booked the holiday before we knew Liverpool had made it to the European Cup Final! He was pleased to be able to watch the game on a big screen!

One of the nights we opted for room service as we were all exhausted after a busy day and our daughter had already fallen asleep. The room service menu is the same as the lounge bar with a £4 tray fee. The food was delicious and came within 30 minutes.

There’s also vending machines on each floor if you fancy a midnight snack!

Hilton Templepatrick Hotel Review : Summary

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Templepatrick. The room was lovely, the kids loved the pool and the food and we couldn’t fault the location as a base to explore Belfast and the rest of Northern Ireland. We’d definitely stay here again.
