It’s one of the most important obligations we have as parents – the task of teaching our children moral values. We often take our own moral values for granted because in reality, they’ve been with us for most of our lives. They were taught to us when we were children and taken as fact. So, it’s a good idea to explore your own moral values before your child is old enough to begin learning them.
Our moral values are what allow us all to weigh up right and wrong as well as to treat others with respect. This prep school in Buckingham ensures all pupils are taught strong moral values and this is reflected in the behaviour of the pupils.
Looking after others
This is really at the core of many moral values. The idea of putting others first and also ensuring others feel happy and comfortable are really important and by showing children the many ways in which we can look after others, you’ll be setting them up for life.
Here are some of the ways in which we can look after others.
- Good manners
- Thoughtful actions
- Looking after our environment
- Listening to the opinions and thoughts of other people
- Caring for animals
- Being thankful for all we have
Show moral values through actions
Of course, talking is important as are stories with a moral twist but showing morality in action is far more effective. Watch your own behaviour in day to day life – your child is watching and learning from all you do.
Children who are brought up in calm, loving and thoughtful homes will naturally fit into school life with ease because their moral values are well established.
It’s natural for other children (and adults) to notice when a child is kind, well-mannered and thoughtful so start early and let your child get a head start in life.
