If you have a young family and you’re planning the annual foreign holiday, you have come to the right place, as we present a few great family travel hacks to help you enjoy a peaceful holiday.

1. Use packing cubes

These are amazing! A family of four can manage to put all their clothing in a single large suitcase! You can find them online, they have a range of sizes, so there will be one that is right for you. Rolling is also a good way to maximise luggage space, there are YouTube videos to show you the best rolling techniques. Even things like a childrens towelling robe can be effectively rolled, saving you heaps of space.

2. Label your luggage

The chances are low that you will get separated from your luggage, but smart families prepare for everything; put your hotel name and your full home address, just in case. Do this on all your bags and brightly coloured tags are great because you can see your bags when they first come out of those plastic flaps on the luggage carousel. You should either delegate your partner to watch the kids while you find the bags and put them on trolleys. Or you do the child minding; never take your eyes off your children in busy places like airports, for obvious reasons. Click here for a traveller’s wardrobe checklist

3. Don’t overpack

If you have a couple of young kids, it is perfectly natural to pack everything you think you might need; this is a mistake, put everything on a bed and review each and every item and you’ll find that as much as 50% can be removed. The more you travel, the better at packing you will be!

4. Keep snacks in a sealed plastic container

We all know that 5-year-olds are snack crazy and when kids are tired and irritable, snacks are the best solution. Top up when you can and this can be used as an effective incentive.

5. Take photos of all passports

When you are asked to show ID, this can be a tiresome issue, as you have to find the passports, whereas, if you have images on your phone, that is usually good enough for most officials.

Always go online and check the entry requirements at the destination country, these rules can change at any time.
