As our kids are getting older our minds are starting to focus on a new home. It can take some time to save for a dream home so we’ve decided to plan in advance! We have three children and currently live in a modest three bed home, so space is certainly limited. I’ve written previously about our dream garden but lately my thoughts have turned to our living room. Our living room is the heart of our home. It’s where we play games and gather as a family to watch movies. It’s the place we spend most time together and I’ve spent so much time dreaming of my ideal living room.
Here’s what I would love.
I have always loved the look of traditional bay windows. I love the appearance from both inside and outside the home. The large deep sills are perfect for displaying plants or photographs and they really open up a room. The main advantage would be the large amount of natural light coming into the room. There’s nothing more depressing than a dark and gloomy room!
When the children were younger we decided that carpets would be the best choice as it was gentler on the little knees when they were crawling. Now they’re getting older we can start to look at something a bit more stylish. I have always loved the appearance of wood flooring. There’s something so classic and timeless about it. Engineered wood flooring is durable, long lasting and tolerates moisture without warping. We chose a lovely carpet when we bought this house but within a couple of years it’s become flat and almost unrecognisable. Engineered wood flooring is much more robust (as well as looking beautiful!)
Is there anything more welcoming than a fireplace? We don’t have one in the house we have now but I would absolutely love one in my dream living room. A fireplace creates a cosy, warm atmosphere that I would love in my home. I would have worried about having one while the children were younger and still crawling around but they’re now at an age where we could all enjoy the benefits of a traditional fireplace.
Between the five of us we have built quite a large collection of books. I alone have over a hundred books scattered across the house. We have bookcases in virtually every room! My dream living room would be large enough to fit a huge bookcase that could fit all of our books in one place! Remember the scene in Beauty and the Beast where Belle is shown the library? That is the absolute dream!
We currently have a huge corner couch in our living room so there’s plenty of room for everyone to sit down. However what I would really love is a chair of my own. A nice lamp, my own reading chair, a blanket and a book would be absolute bliss! Whether the kids would allow me a minute’s peace to enjoy it, is another matter!

THE BAY ROOM AND FIREPLACE IS THE COZIEST PART OF IT ! THAT WOULD DEFINATELY BE A PART OF MY DREAM HOSE AS WELL
Your plans look impressive. I am a big fan of bay windows and would love to have them in my living room.
What a beautiful plan! I heard bay windows are the way to go because they are beautiful but also bring a lot of light!
I would love to have a huge wall of books, as I have some of the most favorite and life-changing books in boxes. I do have room on the walls in my office where I could create the shelfing. Just need to get this project going.
This is really an amazing plan. Would to have this at my place when I move out of my parents place
Wow, I also want to make my own post of our dream house or a dream living room. It will be fun imagining and inspiring ourselves with things that can possibly happen in the future.
