Legoland Billund Review : Days Out With Kids In Denmark

The main reason for our holiday to Billund, along with visiting the LEGO House, was to experience Legoland Billund. We have visited Legoland Windsor twice, both as day guests and as guests of the hotel and we were eager to know how Legoland Billund compared.

Legoland Billund : Location

Billund isn’t a very large place so no matter where you’re staying it’s pretty easy to get to Legoland. We actually walked from our stay at Lalandia but during the summer months you can hop on the free shuttle bus that stops at the airport, most hotels / holiday parks and the main tourist attractions.

Legoland Billund : Our Experience

We got there for when the gates opened and my daughter was excited to be greeted by a princess. My eldest was keen to get to the rides but not before the younger two had enjoyed their photo opp!

One thing that was immediately noticeable was just how much quieter it was compared to Windsor. We later realised that the local schools were already back open so that was probably why! The queues for rides, even the most popular, were never longer than 20 minutes which is fantastic when you consider the wait times at theme parks here in the UK, especially in August.

There were obviously the usual LEGO creations that you would expect at any LEGOLAND. We particularly loved the Easter Island creation and the kids loved the huge dragon near the entrance.

There were rides suitable for all ages. We all went on our first rollercoaster as a family now that our youngest is tall enough to get on. She absolutely loved it (as did we all!) We also went on wet rides as well as slower, more gentle rides such as the safari drive and the mini boats where you could marvel at more LEGO creations. The Statue of Liberty was amazing!

Legoland Billund SEAT Traffic School

The children also took part in the SEAT Traffic school. It’s not included in the park entrance fee and costs 90 DKK per child (approximately £12 each) Here children aged 7 to 13 can learn how to master the basics of driving including pedals to go and brake, how to indicate and give way to oncoming traffic. They are taught to recognise various road signs such as stop and no entry and there’s even a little petrol station and car wash (not real obviously!) The children were here for around an hour and there were benches for the parents to watch from the sidelines. At the end the children were given their own Legoland driving licenses. It was so well run and organised considering how many different nationalities speaking different languages there were. We were really impressed.

Our four year old was too young for the driving school so while one of us stayed watching the boys, the other took Anna on the rides that the boys would have considered “too babyish” for them, so it worked out well.

Legoland Billund : Dining

When it came to have something to eat we stopped at The Saloon in Legoredo Town. It was easy to get a seat and there were various pre-set meals to choose from. The portions were so generous and the food was delicious. These were the kids meals! The Lego brick shaped chips were particularly cute!

Legoland Billund : Sea Life Centre

Within the park there is also a Sea Life Centre which is included in the price. My eldest is obsessed with ocean life so it’s always a real treat to take him to places like this. We’ve been to several Sea Life Centres within theme parks and this was by far the best. From the Lego creations inside the tanks, to the engaging and enthusiastic staff, it really was fantastic.

Legoland Billund : Summary

We had a fantastic time at Legoland Billund. It’s the perfect day out for all the family. It’s sometimes tricky to find a day out that will appeal to both my ten and eight year olds whilst also being suitable for our four year old. Legoland Billund definitely ticked all the boxes.
