We visited the The Mini Chef Restaurant after exploring the Lego House in Billund and it was so amazing it deserved its own blog post!
The restaurant is situated just inside the Lego House in Billund, Denmark. The Lego House is right in the town centre and if you’re staying in Billund during the summer months you can hop on the free City Shuffle Bus which stops at various locations including Legoland, Lalandia and Lego House. The Mini Chef restaurant is located before you go through the turnstiles of Lego House which means you can eat without paying the admission price.
What makes the Mini Chef Restaurant so different from your average restaurant is the way you order and receive your food. You are informed on arrival that your meal will be cooked and delivered by mini figures and robots! This instantly grabbed my kids’ attention!
After being shown to your table you are given the menu and given an explanation on how to order. The adult menu, costing 169DKK, allows you to chose one dish from each of the four coloured categories. Children, whose meal costs 98DKK, are invited to chose a dish from three of the four categories. Each dish on the menu has a Lego piece next to it.
Now it’s time to create your order! You are given a slate on which to build your order and a bag of Lego bricks that correspond with the dishes on the menu. You simply chose the Lego brick for each dish you wish to order. Each adult adds four coloured bricks, while the children add three plus a special yellow brick. The yellow brick means the children get a special gift with their food. The slate is then inserted into a machine at the end of your table. The machine reads back what you’ve ordered to ensure there are no mistakes!
When the food is ready, the machine alerts you to go and collect your food. The food is served inside of Lego boxes (so clever!) and comes down a conveyor belt. The final step is the robots, Robert and Roberta, pushing the boxes towards you!
We arrived at the restaurant after exploring the Lego House and were informed there would be a half an hour wait for a table (it isn’t possible to pre-book a table). The time went relatively fast though as the kids were entertained by piles of bricks they could play with while they waited.
The kids loved creating their own orders and using the machine. I was worried it might be a bit too complicated but the machine guides you through each section and it really is idiot proof! They also loved the robots and the whole idea there was a team of Lego figures in the kitchen creating their meals.
There wasn’t a long wait for food and again the time passed quickly. Behind our table were various Lego-themed books to keep the kids entertained. The machine also meant it was really easy to order drinks without having to flag down a member of the waiting team. However if you did want to speak to someone there was a “buzz for a human” option on the machine.
The food itself was all delicious and so different from the usual kids options. The restaurant states “It goes fast in our restaurant, but we do not serve fast food. We believe in the nutritious meal, the best ingredients and the good taste – all with a focus on ecology”.
The kids all enjoyed their food, even our fussy four year old! They also received a mini-figure chef to create which came in place of their yellow brick.
The whole experience was innovative, modern and great fun. The kids loved the experience just as much as they enjoyed eating the food! It firmly fits with the whole Lego ethos of learning through play and couldn’t have been more child-friendly.
We’d recommend it anyone!

Learnign through play is such a wonderful ethos and the food looks really good. So nice to see all the colours and a good variety there too. Mich x
We are hoping to visit here next year with the children. Great to hear that they have a range of options available (Tigger is a fussy eater).
Oh wow, the Lego restaurant sounds like so much fun. I know I'd enjoy it, nevermind our son! And I like how they tell you their food is fast but isn't fast food.
