How To Grow Your Own Herb Garden

As summer is starting to feel like a distant memory and the darker nights are starting to draw in, Autumn is starting to make its presence known. To me the colder mornings and falling leaves can only mean one thing – casserole season! With the kids back in school it’s a perfect time to create a hearty, warming dish in the slow cooker. Not only does it make the kitchen smell amazing all day, it’s so convenient to know I don’t have to start cooking after the kids have come home.

In an attempt to become more healthy, and more frugal, I have started to make more meals from scratch. The amount of sugar and salt in the shop bought jars is staggering. What I always assumed was a healthy meal was actually filling my kids with way too much salt and sugar. So not only do I make my own casseroles now, but spaghetti bolognese and curries are now also made from scratch. I am not a great cook by any stretch of the imagination but I was surprised just how easy it is to make the meals myself, and they actually taste better!

In an attempt to make the sauces even more economical, we have started to look into growing our own herb garden. Just like I’m not a keen cook, I’m also not a keen gardener (I’m a dreadful housewife!) I wouldn’t know where to start in growing my own herbs but thankfully the guys at Trago have kindly created a handy beginners guide.

So now I know when to sow and when to harvest! I had no idea that you could sow basil and rosemary from as early as February. It’s also great to know that Trago stocks so many garden and planting supplies to make the whole job easier.

Have you grown your own herb garden? Have you got any more tips for us beginners?! Let us know in the comments.
