Delhi Belly Is Not A Joke: How To Avoid A Stomach Bug On A Trip!

Booking a trip abroad is the most exciting thing that you can do. It’s even more impressive when you bring the whole family along for the ride. You get to spread your wings and explore, try new cuisines, and meet new people. You also had the opportunity to experience some fantastic cultures and see beautiful sights. Unfortunately, travel introduces more than foreign scenery into your life: it introduces some strange bugs, too!

The good news is that you don’t have to panic too much. Most travellers who get a nasty bug over their vacation recover nice and quickly and diarrhoea goes away in a few days. The problem is that no one wants to get a bug in the first place! You are on holiday to enjoy yourself, and you can only do that when you feel comfortable, and you can stomach the excellent food on offer. Let’s take a look at how you can avoid a stomach bug on your next trip.

  • Stay Hydrated. Most of those who head abroad are smart enough to drink only bottled water. We all know not to drink water from the tap when abroad, as it’s not always treated the same way that the water is at home. Most of the time, stomach bugs pop up because of the water – or lack of it. So, it would help if you stay hydrated as much as possible. You should also drink as much water as possible if you have loose stools to replace what you are losing.
  • Keep It Clean. Airports and public transport in a new place are not always the cleanest to be in, and when you have to transit through more than one location, it’s easy to pick up germs. Using Dettol hand sanitiser wherever you go will keep your hands germ-free and ensure that despite touching everything that everyone else touches (door handles, etc.), you will be bug-free. Keep your hands clean and exercise common sense, and you’ll be able to keep the bugs at bay.
  • Eat Well. Whether a bug has made a home in your stomach or not, you need to eat well. Check the meat before you eat it and don’t buy food from any food vendors that look dodgy. Keep an eye on what you consume, and you’ll avoid any food-related bugs. The term “Delhi Belly” comes from the result of touring India and eating exotic food. Avoid it by eating a diet rich in fruit and vegetables; you can hopefully avoid this happening to you.
  • Know Where The Doctors Are. When you have a stomach bug, there’s not much you can do but wait for it to pass (no pun intended). However, you’re in a foreign place, so make a note of where the local doctors are and know where to go if there are any issues.

Your holiday is a time of rest and relaxation. You need to ensure that you do everything that you can to keep your holiday a wonderful time of things!
