Zog Live review. I was offered complimentary tickets for the purposes of this review. As always opinions are my own.
We had a weekend of theatre going to celebrate the start of the Easter holidays! We were lucky enough to watch The Wizard Of Oz in St. Helens on Saturday. On Sunday we headed to Storyhouse Chester to watch Zog Live.
This was our first visit to Storyhouse and I loved it immediately. Storyhouse isn’t simply a theatre; it’s a library, cinema, community hub, cultural centre and restaurant as well! All buildings should be full of books in my opinion!
It’s right in the middle of Chester and really easy to find. I parked on a multi-story carpark just around the corner (Delamere Street) and it was reasonably priced considering it’s location.
We were sat upstairs in the circle and had really good seats. From what I could gather you’d get a great view regardless of where you sit. There doesn’t seem to be anything to obstruct the view and the seating was comfortable.
Storyhouse have some great upcoming productions, click here to see what’s coming up.
Zog is produced by Freckle Productions. Freckle Productions have also produced the popular adaptations of Tabby McTat, Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales and Stick Man, which too are books by Julia Donaldson.
The children were given Zog stickers on arrival which my daughter was delighted about! There was a photo opportunity for the kids to pose with a picture of Zog. As with any Instagram-worthy photo opp, my children stood excitedly until the minute I produced my camera and they forgot how to smile nicely (in my daughter’s case looked like she was about to cry!)
This was the best I could get!
The show itself was perfect for a younger audience. It was full of age appropriate humour and silliness that the children loved. There was a small cast of just five, who were all hugely talented. Not only did they act and sing, they provided sound effects, played musical instruments and showcased their impressive puppetry skills.
The puppets (and their puppeteers!) were brightly coloured and engaging and the songs ensured my usually fidgety four year old sat entranced. Both of my kids sat and giggled, and my six year particularly enjoyed Sir Gadabout’s silliness.

The story stayed true to the book with a few slight adjustments for the stage. The tale of Zog and Princess Pearl breaks down stereotypes and encourages children to follow their dreams.
Zog is appearing across the UK throughout the Spring and Summer, click here to find your local venue. It’s the perfect introduction to the theatre for little ones.

What a shame we are not over in the uk at all as my three adore Zogg and would have loved to watch this. Children's theatre just keeps on getting better for them
It looks like your family has been enjoying these recent trips out. It looks super fun!
Zog is Erin's favourite and has been since we saw the preview before Christmas. This sounds fantastic.
My friend who lives near Chester will be so keen to check this out with her kids!
This sounds like such a fun live show to see! The Storyhouse seems like such a great location for live theatre as well.
Oh what a fun family day out! I would absolutely love to take my daughters to see Zog, as it is one of their favourite books :)
Perfect! An afternoon at the theatre is such a treat. I can see why they would love Zog too, a great story for younger ones.
I am so jealous! We love Zog, it's one of our favourite books. Hoping it tours to Edinburgh at some point.
Zog is such a great story, we love Julia Donaldson books. Bringing the book to the stage is a brilliant way for children (and adults) to enjoy it further. It sounds like a great idea for a family trip out.
What a fun outing. We love the Zog story and this is a great way to get children interested in stories and a fun way to extend their interest in literacy. Fantastic.
