How to Find the Right Silicone Sponge Sheet

When it comes to getting the job done right, you need to have the right tools and materials. If you pick the wrong product, this could leave you with a massive mess and high cost to fix the issue. Thus, if you find out that you need a silicone sponge sheet, you have to make sure you are getting the right one.

There are many things you’ll need to consider when it comes to finding the right silicone sponge sheet. Thinking about these in advance will ensure that you order the right product to get the done job effectively and efficiently.

What Temperature Will You be Working at?

Silicone sponge sheets are rated to deal with a wide range of temperatures. If you are going to have temperatures that are below 200 degrees Fahrenheit, then you can work with a nitrile, neoprene, or EPDM sponge. If you find out that you have temperatures that are higher than 200 degrees Fahrenheit and if they are around 450 degrees, then you’ll want to go with a sponge that is made from cellular silicone.

While the silicone sponge is rated up to 450 degrees, it can also handle temperatures below that. Thus, it is an excellent choice for any task that you throw its way, and it will be able to operate the job effectively and comfortable.

Will it be Exposed to Chemicals?

A silicone sponge has been shown to have a higher resistance to chemical materials. Thus, they make an excellent choice over certain types of sponge rubber because they can stand up to a lot more. A silicone sponge sheet can be incredibly advantageous if corrosive chemicals are present. These sheets can withstand and give protection against a variety of chemical elements.

Do You Need a Low Compression Set?

If your project is going to expose the sponge sheet to compression and you don’t want it to be permanently deformed, then you’ll probably want to use a silicone sponge. These sponges have the ability to rebound after compression and retain their original shapes – or be as close to their original shapes as possible. Most sponge rubbers also possess this quality, but a silicone sponge performs better under compression.

When thinking about compression, you will also need to consider the cell structure of the sponge. In general, there are two types: closed cell and open cell. A closed cell structure is beneficial when there will be more pressure on the material. It is less likely to get damaged from the compression.

The open cell structure is beneficial if your applications involve high temperatures. This type of sponge sheet can return to its uncompressed state more quickly than the closed cell type. It also exhibits less permanent deformation.

Many applications and industries use sponge sheets made from silicone, as it is an incredibly versatile and durable material. When it comes to high temperatures and pressure, it can withstand any extreme environment. However, finding the right sponge sheet is imperative to ensure that the task is being completed safely and effectively.

Knowing the exact task specifications and your needs will help you get the right sponge sheet. Once you have figured out this aspect, you can then decide which colour option you want. With so many uses, silicone sponge sheets have surpassed expectations and are used in a variety of different ways. They may be versatile, but you still need the right sheet for the job.
