Looking for something a little different this Summer? Look no further! Trafford’s flagship arts festival REFRACT:19 is returning to Waterside, Sale for its third consecutive year.
Refract:19 is a ten day arts extravaganza. From Thursday 18th July to Saturday 27th July, you’ll have the opportunity to see the best in dance, music, live comedy and theatre. For a full list of events please see the official brochure.
We love the sound of Wiredo. Suitable for over 14s, Hanna Moisala combines tightwire stunts and the Japanese rope art of Shibari.
For the kids we can’t help but love the sound of Slime. Showing at three different locations within Greater Manchester, the show is guaranteed fun for 2-5 year olds. This hilarious performance about a slug and caterpillar lasts 45 minutes plus 15 minutes of free play. I also think the kids would love the musical experience of MINIFEST.
The Herd Theatre presents SLIME at Refract:19
However I particularly love the sound of Space Rebel Princess. I’m all for breaking gender stereotypes and the tale of a young princess who dreams of becoming an astronaut sounds perfect for children aged 5-9 years.
On Saturday 20th July, at either 12pm or 2pm, you can catch Adrift. Adrift is an imaginative, physical storytelling dance production by Kapow Dance, a Manchester based company founded by Eithne Kane and Beth Powlesland.
On Saturday 27th July at 4pm and 8pm you can see Captive, an exciting blend of dance, acrobatics and aerial work inside a large cage.
Both of these performances are free at the Waterside Plaza.
Waterside Arts is an award-winning destination in the heart of Sale, Greater Manchester. We have visited Waterside on many occasions and we love it there. Everything seems to be catered towards families and we’ve never seen a performance we didn’t love.
OKS Silent DisGlo at Waterside Arts
Another exciting event at this years Refract, is the OKS Silent DisGlo. The Silent DisGlo promises to be “a special blend of neon arts and crafts, your favourite tunes and all styles of dancing”. There’ll be a variety of neon based craft stations to entertain the whole family.
Grab your headphones and chose between kids pop on one channel and adult guilty pleasures on the other. And since it’s a silent disco, no-one will need to know which one you’ve chosen! Enjoy the music, have a dance and enjoy the party. The ultimate family disco to kick the summer holidays off in style.
The Silent DisGlo takes place at the Waterside on Friday 26th July at 1pm and I’m excited to be able to give away a family ticket for 4 people! Simply enter via the widget below. Good luck!
