Are A levels the Right Choice for My Child?

A levels are the studies follow after secondary school exams. They are a form of further education and are a great way for students to develop their skills and study subjects in depth ready for university. It is usually the path taken by those who would like to move on to higher education and strive for certain goals. But how do you know if A levels are the right choice for your child? Here are some tips from an independent school in Cardiff on what to look out for when helping your child make this decision.

Big step up

A levels are a big jump from GCSEs, so it is important that your child understands how difficult they can be. Your child will be required to do a lot more work outside of lessons which means that they need to be disciplined and motivated. A levels consist of three subjects that are studied over two years which means your child needs to enjoy the subjects chosen too. If they have a specific career or future degree in mind, they need to choose subjects that will help them get there.

Recognition internationally

One of the best things about A levels it’s how they are recognised further than the UK. They are widely recognised by prestigious institutions which opens up doors for students who would like to take their work abroad or study further elsewhere. It is a great choice for those who have a passion for their field of studies as it gives a good idea for what can be taken on later in life such as in university.

A levels are a good choice for those who are motivated and have aspirations to take their studies further after completing exams in secondary school. Whilst there are other methods that allow progression, A levels is one of the direct routes there. If your child is okay with Independent studies and written exams, this could be the best way forward.
