There are reasons why arts and crafts are seen as a central part of a child’s ongoing development. Nurseries and primary schools run creative sessions with their students on a regular basis in between study sessions to allow children to be creative, have fun and share their creations with other students. It’s a great boost to their self-esteem and takes them away from the classroom.
This nursery in Lincoln has put together a series of reasons why arts and crafts lessons continue to be a part of a young child’s school experience, and how it helps them later on in life.
Making arts and crafts with friends or family lets your child feel free to talk about what they’re going to make and build. They’ll be keen to show off their work with the family and it is a great way for you to praise your child for their efforts. Continued arts and crafts sessions allows your child to continually practice with their craft and increase their confidence.
From painting to glueing, bending things and making funky shapes, your child is testing out a lot of different muscles from their hands and arms. Fine motor skills should be practiced regularly in order for children to learn how to hold items, hang onto things, tie things and carry things, among other skills.
This is a free chance for your child to be themselves and make whatever it is that springs to mind. Give them that freedom by allowing their creative juices to flow. Arts and crafts increases your child’s self-expression, confidence and their own independence.
Allowing your child to be creative also comes with the power of confidence. It’s a moment where your child is free to be themselves and create unique work of their own. When we’re very young we often cherish these moments to allow us to be inquisitive and form our personalities as we age.
