Sea Life Centre Blackpool Review : Days Out With Kids

During our weekend trip to Blackpool, we visited Sea Life Centre Blackpool. We’d previously visited the small Sea Life at Alton Towers, and the kids loved it so we were excited to visit what Blackpool had to offer.

Sea Life Centre Blackpool Review – Location

Sea Life is centrally located on Blackpool’s Central promenade, close to Blackpool Tower and other attractions such as Coral Island. We walked from our hotel next to Blackpool Pleasure Beach but there’s plenty of trams and buses available. There’s also a large pay and display carpark just around the corner.

Sea Life Centre Blackpool Review – Our experience

On arrival the kids were instantly excited to view as many sea creatures as possible. Sea Life is much bigger on the inside than it seems on the outside and there was so much to see.

The Rockpool was a big hit with the children. They were encouraged by the knowledgeable staff member to (gently!) touch the creatures within the rock pool. They were able to ask plenty of questions and it’s an opportunity to get up close to sea creatures that they wouldn’t usually see.

My eldest son has always been fascinated by sharks so he had a great time educating us on the various shark species he spotted! He was similarly entranced by the stingray. My youngest two were excited to the clownfish and blue tang (Nemo and Dory!)

I was fascinated by the seahorses. There’s something quite majestic about them, and any species where the males have the babies is a winner in my eyes!

Sea Life Centre Blackpool Review – Lulu

The highlight of the trip was definitely Lulu, the Giant Green Sea Turtle. She, as her name suggests, is huge! There’s the opportunity to view Lulu and the sharks (and the other creatures) in the huge display window where a staff member told us all about the animals we could see. She informed us about the differences in the sharks, and told us all about Lulu. She also told us about the danger creatures like Lulu face in the wild due to plastic. Her passionate plea for us all to reduce our plastic usage was well received by the children, who vowed to cut down on plastic straws.

There were a lot of interactive activities to keep the children engaged and interested. There was a hunt for different types of shark teeth hidden within the tanks. On completion the kids were offered badges and tubs of Play-doh. The children also enjoyed participating in the various activities and questions located throughout the different areas.

Sea Life Centre Blackpool Review – Summary

We had a fantastic time at Sea Life Centre Blackpool. There was so much to see and do and Lulu is worth the entrance price alone! It’s great they focus so much on conservation and the protection of sea creatures at risk. It’s such an important lesson for the children.

Prices start at £11.50 for children and £14 for adults if you book online. If you’re planning on visiting a few attractions in Blackpool, it might be worth considering buying a combined ticket as it works out much cheaper. Visit the Sea Life Centre Blackpool website for details.
