Fabulous Village Rome Review : Our Family Holiday in Italy

Welcome to our Fabulous Village Rome Review!

Booking a holiday for five people during the summer holidays can be both stressful and expensive. Visiting Italy as a family is no exception. As the kids are getting older it seems even holidaying in the UK is a costly experience. We therefore decided to look around at what was on offer overseas. We immediately disregarded the package all-inclusive holidays as the majority just don’t cater for five people. Many of them required us to book two rooms and the prices were ridiculous.

We’d previously heard great things about Eurocamp so decided to see what they had to offer. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices and although we’d need to organise our own flights and transfers, we decided that is would be the most economic option for us. It was through Eurocamp that we found Fabulous Village Rome.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Booking

Whilst we found the village through Eurocamp we actually booked direct through the Human Company. We found they offered better accommodation for a similar price and unlike Eurocamp, we didn’t need to provide our own bed linen and towels. We were required to pay a deposit at the time of booking and the remainder 20 days before our arrival date. Booking was straight forward and payments were all completed easily online.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Transfer From Rome

We made our trip from Naples and took the train straight from Napoli Centrale to Roma Termini. We were thankful that we could store our luggage at Termini train station (for a fee!) so we could explore a bit of Rome before continuing our journey. We visited Trevi Fountain and The Colosseum and made the journey back into Rome later in the week to visit The Vatican Museums and Spanish Steps. We loved Rome and it’s easy to see why it’s the top of the best cities in Italy to visit.

From Roma Termini we caught the Metro Line B train to EUR Fermi, and then took a 25 minute bus ride to right outside the village. I was a bit apprehensive about using the public transport since we’d never done it before and we had all our luggage (and all our children!) but it was really straight forward and easy to do.

On the way back we arranged a transfer from Guest Services back to Ciampino airport as we had an early flight and knew it would be a lot less hassle. This cost us €60 for the five of us.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Check in

After exploring Rome and using the public transport we arrived at the village at around 4pm, just in time for check in. There were a few people ahead of us but we weren’t waiting long. We were greeted by friendly English speaking staff (for which we were grateful considering our Italian doesn’t extent past ciao and grazi!)

We were given a map of the park and shown where our accommodation was in relation to everything else and we literally could not have been further away! Our accommodation was right in the top corner of the map! The staff on reception arranged a golf buggy to drop us and our luggage off right outside our home for the week.  Despite it being the furthest away from everywhere it wasn’t as far as it looked. We’ve definitely stayed a further distance from the centre at Center Parcs. It was approximately a 10-15 minute walk to the pool and facilities.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Our Accommodation

We chose a Leonardo Plus accommodation which I believe is only available if you book direct as we did. We soon discovered our accommodation’s location was actual a huge plus. It was quiet, pretty secluded and away from all the hustle and bustle of the centre. This meant we could sit on our veranda in an evening and enjoy a quiet glass of wine.

The main positive though was the view. It was simply stunning and we loved waking up to such a beautiful sight each morning.

The accommodation itself was compact but big enough for our needs. We had three bedrooms, a master with a double bed and ensuite, and two other bedrooms with twin beds. We were provided with bedding and towels because we booked direct but we still needed to make up own beds.

The kitchen was well equipped and there was a table both inside and outside to eat at. We were given a bottle of wine and colouring crayons for the kids, as well as cleaning products that you would usually need to pay for. We were also given a voucher for a free game of mini golf for the five of us, all because we booked direct!

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Pools

There are three pools at Camping Fabulous. There’s two deeper pools and one shallow pool which is perfect for children. There are plenty of sun loungers surrounding the pools so you can sit and watch the kids play. My daughter loved the smaller pool. It had a slide at one end and a whale shaped activity area in the middle where the kids could climb and slide.

My older two kids are confident swimmers so had a great time in the deeper pools. There was daily entertainment within one of the pools offering zumba and aqua aerobics if you wished to take part.

There’s also a pool bar selling everything from pizza and beer to soft drinks and ice-creams.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Facilities and Activities

If swimming isn’t your thing there’s plenty of other activities on site. Volleyball, football and mini golf are available to let your competitive side loose! We loved the mini golf. It was a full sized 18 hole course and really well maintained.

There are two play areas within the village. One is by the restaurant and supermarket while the other is by the swimming pool. There was plenty there to keep all three of our kids entertained, including swings, slides and climbing frames.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Entertainment

There was nightly entertainment within the village including a kids disco which was good fun. After the kids entertainment there was usually something to entertain the whole family, including a performance of Grease.

There was also live music twice a week which was actually really good. The band sang everything from Ed Sheeran to Radiohead and we really enjoyed listening to them.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Dining

There’s a few different options when it comes to dining within the village. There is the supermarket should you wish to cook yourself in your accommodation. There’s also a takeaway where you can get pizzas (amongst other things) to take away with you.

We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and really enjoyed it. The portions were generous, even the kids meals. The pizza was delicious and we also tried steak and pasta which were also really nice.

The gelateria sold the most AMAZING gelato. We’d had gelato before while in Venice but this really was something special. They had so many flavours to choose from and the kids loved trying new ones each day. It was good value too as the portions were really generous.

You could also buy cocktails and other alcoholic drinks from the gelateria or the cocktail bar next to the restaurant.

Fabulous Village Rome Review : Summary

We had an amazing holiday. We loved that we could combine two different types of holiday in one; relaxing by the pool or heading into Rome for sightseeing. We’d recommend it to anyone.

  • I am desperate to take the kids to Rome so this is definitely somewhere we will consider! It looks like it has a lot to offer as well as being a great location!

  • We’ve been toying with Eurocamp for a while. We are a family of 5 and cost is huge for holidays abroad.

My sister in law is just back from one of these and loved it.

    Glad you enjoyed x

  • What a lovely holiday you all had, I am tempted by this destination and think the kids would go crazy for the ice creams and the pool!

  • What an amazing holiday you had, we always enjoy our family holidays to Italy but yet to visit Rome as a family.

    • We're hoping to do a family holiday to Italy soon and Rome is definitely on our list. I wouldn't have thought of a Eurocamp option so thank you for this recommendation!

  • I want to go back to Rome again, only child free this time as there’s so much to see but my lot moaned and got bored at the sites. They just want to be in the pool all day lol

  • This looks like a great place to stay. The kitchen is so modern and looks well equipped, but it's always good to know you can head to an on-site restaurant for good food if you don't feel like cooking.

  • Oh that sounds like a great EuroCamp resort. I’d heard when you book through them you need to bring your own linen and towels but that adds so much weight. Booking direct sounds a lot easier. Glad you enjoyed it. And that view, wow!

  • This sounds like a great location. I love Rome and would love to go back one day.
