I still consider myself a relatively new blogger. I’m constantly learning new things, making mistakes, breaking my website (oops!) and basically winging it. However I recently realised that September marks my third year as a blogger. Three years!
It’s a milestone I’m so happy to reach. What started as a place to jot down my thoughts and experiences as a mum of three, has turned into my own little business and one I’m really proud of. It’s opened up some fantastic opportunities, introduced me to some amazing people and has reignited my love of writing.
Mighty Mama Bear is predominantly a family blog, and in the earlier days I focused primarily on the challenges and pitfalls of being a mum. It was both a creative outlet but also a place to vent frustrations and document our daily lives. At the time of creating Mighty Mama Bear I had three children under eight years old, my youngest being a truly exhausting two year old. I felt like I was starting to lose my identity and this blog has played a big part in feeling like “me” again, not just “mum”.
As the years have gone on and my children have become a little older, my blog still has a family focus. However I’ve discovered my real passion is writing about family travel and days out. Family days out has always played a huge part in our lives and we’re always looking for new adventures. Travel has been more of a recent love of ours. For years my husband and I put our travel plans aside to prioritise the children but we’ve realised that we can combine our two loves: our kids and travel!
We have started to really enjoy our family trips to new countries and cities, documenting our adventures along the way. We have taken the kids to see the Colosseum in Rome and the ruins of Pompeii. We’ve had amazing festive trips to Paris and Copenhagen that only increased of love of European cities.
2020 was supposed to be the year of travel for us. With more trips planned than ever before, we were excited to visit new places while revisiting old favourites. However 2020 had other ideas. Our trips to London, Paris, Budapest, Munich, Vienna and Salzburg have all been cancelled or postponed. Closer to home theatre trips, days out and events have also been cancelled.
It’s been a frustrating year, not just personally but for my blog too. Luckily my blog is an assortment of ramblings so I have the option to focus on other areas but it’s still disappointing. I feel just as I was finding my passion of writing about family travel, everything came to a halt. Many travel bloggers are in exactly the same boat having nowhere to travel to, and therefore nothing to write about.
It’s been frustrating and disappointing, and at times I’ve felt it harder to write. The inspiration has been lacking the more we stay at home. However it has allowed me to become more versatile. I’ve written about subjects I haven’t before and I’ve been able to focus on other areas, such as family home.
It’s hard to know what the next three years of blogging will bring. Hopefully we will have the return of travel and all the amazing things that come with it. In the meantime I’ll be thankful and proud of how far Mighty Mama Bear has come in the past three years.
