Summer Home Improvement Tips

If you want to enjoy the summer sun this year without having to worry about any DIY jobs around the home, it’s time to start preparing now. With snow, wind and rain becoming infrequent, now is the perfect time to assess your property and make any appropriate upgrades and repairs. The scale of the projects you embark on will depend on your budget and how much time you have, but below are some ideas to get you started.

Outdoor Lighting

Prepare for BBQ season with some new outdoor lighting, otherwise you’ll have to cut the party short as soon as the sun goes down. For smaller gardens, lighting will make the space seem bigger. One option is recessed lighting around the edge of your patio area to separate each section of your garden and allow you to dine alfresco, even at night time.

Painting & Decorating

Yellow skirting boards and door frames can really bring a room down, but it’s nothing that a lick of paint can’t fix. Tackle your home room by room so that you don’t feel overwhelmed. If necessary, you might want to replace your internal doors with some shiny new ones; it’s an easier task than it may seem.

Pressure Wash

If you buy or rent a pressure washer, you won’t regret it. They are designed to remove the build-up of dirt, such as bird poo, from your patio and other surfaces. It’s a very rewarding way to transform your property and give it a well-deserved freshen up.

Ventilation

Good airflow is crucial for maintaining a comfortable home during the hot, stuffy months. Opening the windows is a great place to start, but you may need to install an exhaust fan in areas where moisture is more likely to occur.
