For The Kids

History For Kids : Mysteries In Time Subscription Box Review and Giveaway

I was never a fan of history lessons when I was a child. I found history boring and hard to relate to. I had no interest in what happened to a load of people hundreds or thousands of years ago. It’s only now I’m older that I can appreciate it’s the way history was taught that led to my dislike of the subject. Sitting in a stuffy classroom reading from old textbooks isn’t exactly conducive to developing a love of history.

I think our children’s generation are so lucky to have so many different learning options open to them. One way of making history for kids more exciting and accessible is through Mysteries In Time. Mysteries In Time is a monthly subscription box aimed at kids aged 7-11 (or thereabouts). Each box focuses on a particular time period, from Ancient Rome to the Victorians. The boxes are jam packed full of facts and enable the child to learn through a variety of engaging and fun activities.

We were sent the Ancient Egyptians box for the children to try during lockdown.

The box comes in a time machine themed box that can be personalised and is full of fun activities. There’s a illustrated adventure story, complete with bookmark, which really brings the topic alive. My eight year old likes to read and found the story really helped the facts he learnt sink in.

The box included a large world map and timeline so the children can visualise when and where these invents took place. It also contains a colourful history magazine full of facts, presented in a way that’s easy to read and understand. Within the magazine there’s pictures to colour and quizzes and puzzles to complete.

My eldest (11) is more a practical learner and finds the information sinks in better by completing activities. He loved completing the mazes and figuring out the anagrams.

Our youngest is only five but doesn’t like to be left out so we discussed some of the topics in the magazine and she had a go at creating her very own amulet using the model clay provided in the box. He particularly loved the Tutankhamun pen provided in the box.

The kids really enjoyed learning about the Ancient Egyptians using the Mysteries In Time box. I think the suggested age range of 7-11 years old is an accurate one, as both our two in that age range found the activities age appropriate and fun. My eldest already had an interest in the Egyptians after studying it at school and seeing Egyptian artefacts at the Vatican Museum. The book and activities helped solidify his existing knowledge and taught him facts he didn’t already know.

There are two packs to choose from each month, either the classic pack for £7.95 plus post or £12.95 for the bumper pack. You have the option to cancel at any time and you can choose just to send a one-off gift if you wish.
