7 Of The Best Halloween Movies For Kids

Watching a spooky movie is the perfect Halloween activity. When you think of Halloween films, you might automatically think of classics like The Exorcist or A Nightmare On Elm Street. Whilst these may be the perfect scary movie, they’re not really suitable for watching with the kids! However there are plenty of Halloween movies for kids.

There are so many child friendly movies that are ideal to watch at Halloween. Wizards, witches, ghosts and ghouls can be spooky without terrifying our little ones into never sleeping again!

Here are a few of our favourites.

Halloween Movies For Kids : Casper

Insisting that not all ghosts are frightening, Casper is the ultimate friendly ghost. My kids love this film. It’s more silly than scary but it has a nice story and it’s the perfect Halloween film to watch with little ones.

Halloween Movies For Kids : The Nightmare Before Christmas

Is it a Halloween film? Is it a Christmas film? How about a bit of both! Tim Burton’s classic combines the too perfectly. Jack Skellington is the unlikely hero of the film and a character my boys love.

Halloween Movies For Kids : Hocus Pocus

Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker. How can you not love that? The story focuses on the Sanderson sisters who, three hundred years after they were sentenced to die, return to gain their revenge. My kids found it a bit scarier than the some of the other films in the list, but certainly weren’t put off by it! There’s songs and general silliness to keep them entertained throughout.

Halloween Movies For Kids : Monster House

Another one that is a little more on the scary side, but perfect for older kids. Impressive CGI and produced by Steven Spielberg, it was always going to be worth a watch!

Halloween Movies For Kids : Corpse Bride

Another fantastically freaky movie gem from Tim Burton, where his character Victor finds himself accidentally married to a Corpse Bride. Who hasn’t accidentally stumbled into an eerie woods and found themselves wed to a dead woman. We’ve all been there! It’s a film only Tim Burton could make, and somehow it works. The movie is more dark than scary, and the kids love it.

Halloween Movies For Kids : The Adams Family

It’s worth watching The Adams Family purely for Christina Ricci’s portrayal of Wednesday Adams. Her deadpan delivery of some of her lines is perfect. Add in Uncle Fester, Thing and Lurch and you’ve got a brilliant, if silly, Halloween film. I loved it when I was little, and now so do my own kids.

Halloween Movies For Kids : Harry Potter

I never need an excuse to watch any of the Harry Potter films, but if wizards, witches, and a faceless villain don’t make a perfect Halloween film, I don’t know what does! The films (like the books) get progressively darker as the series goes on, so the Deathly Hallows make perfect Halloween viewing.

What will you be watching this Halloween? Let me know in the comments!
