The February half term holidays are almost open us already! It only seems five minutes since Christmas!
Time off with the kids means it’s a great excuse to get down to the theatre. We’re lucky to have some lovely theatres in our surrounding area and here’s some shows that we’re looking forward to this February.
All the David Walliams books (and their television adaptations) are hugely popular with our kids. The stories are witty and full of entertaining characters and so Billionaire Boy The Musical is set to be a massive hit. The Lyric Theatre at the Lowry is a great venue for any show; we had an amazing time watching Dr Dolittle before Christmas.
Billionare Boy is showing from Thursday 14th February to Sunday 17th February and is recommended for children and adults aged five years and up
If you’re the parent of a young child you’ve probably seen Twirlywoos on CBeebies. My daughter is obsessed! With music, mischief and inventive puppetry, Toodloo, Great BigHoo, Chickedy, Chick and Peekaboo will be entertaining the audience at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool.
Twirlywoos Live! will be at Epstein Theatre from Wednesday 20 February to Thursday 21 February and is recommended for ages 1 and over (babes in arms also welcome).
Twirlywoos Live!
BAFTA award winning animation Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom is coming to St Helens this February. The makers of Peppa Pig have created a world of fairies and elves which is another favourite in our house. The show is a “magical musical adventure packed full of games, songs and laughter” and is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom Live is coming to St Helens Theatre Royal from Saturday 23rd February to Sunday 24th February.
The lovely Waterside Arts in Sale has a full schedule of family fun this half term! From movies to shows, there’s plenty of options to keep the kids entertained.
2019 marks the centenary of the first ever non-stop flight across the Atlantic. Those Magnificent Men tells the true story of Captain John Alcock and navigator Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown. Written by acclaimed duo Mitchell & Nixon and starring David Mounfield (‘Count Arthur Strong’s Radio Show’) and Brian Mitchell (‘The Ministry of Biscuits’), the show promises to be an evening of “thrills, spills and uproarious comedy.”
Those Magnificent Men is showing on Thursday 14th February and is recommended for children and adults aged seven years and up.

ComedySportz is an interactive competitive comedy, with two teams battling it out for laughs. It’s a completely improvised show for the whole family to enjoy. Who doesn’t enjoy a good laugh?
ComedySportz is showing on Saturday 16th February and is recommended for children and adults aged seven years and up.
For those too young for ComedySportz there’s also an option for little ones. ComedySportz 4 Tots involves lots of silly songs, stories and games, along with opportunities for kids and parents to get involved.
ComedySportz 4 Tots is also showing on Saturday 16th February and is aimed at kids aged six and under.
Indepen-dance 4, Scotland’s inclusive professional dance company, bring us Four Go Wild In Wellies.
Director Anna Newell, composer David Goodall and choreographer Stevie Pricket have worked together for more than 20 years and they’re bringing us a “whimsical adventure featuring bobble hats, scarves, tents that have a life of their own and, of course, lots of fun in wellies!”
The show is on for 25 minutes and is perfect for introducing little ones to the theatre.
Four Go Wild In Wellies is showing on Sunday 24th February and is aimed at children aged three to five years.

Those shows look fantastic. I’m up in Scotland and our school holidays are just coming to an end sadly.
What an impressive line up! I love it when the theatres pull out all the stops for half terms. Which one are you going to see? ?
I have to confess, I've never heard of any of these show. We don't go to the theatre much, usually only at Christmas.
What a great selection there. So much for children to see as well which is really good. This half term does seem to have come round rather fast after Christmas
I’ll have to look these. Ben and Holly is a favourite so I think Jasmine will love that. Love a theatre trip
I wouldn't mind making the 5 hour car journey to see some of these shows. It has been a while since I ventured up North.
What great shows - the Davis Walliams one sounds amazing - we all love his books! Kaz
These all look great. We saw Ben and Holly live last year and the kids loved it!!
Thanks for this! I had no idea that the Twirlywoos were in the Epstein, off to book tickets now :)
