With a lot of a child’s day reliant on handling stress and long hours of study time, it can be difficult for your child to switch off. Mindfulness is a great technique that can be catered to any age and has a heap of benefits no matter when you start.
To start practicing regular mindfulness activities with your child, here are some ways to promote healthy techniques to ease the mind that this nursery in Hampshire recommends.
The basics of learning about being mindful comes down to understanding your own body. Ask your child to point out their arms, legs, chest and other parts of the body. Ask how those body parts feel to them, if there are any pains or sensations they can identify; this is the first lesson about learning to know your own body and mind.
Meditation takes a few attempts before you can sit in a stationary position for a long time. With children, even 5 minutes of long deep breaths and relaxation techniques can help them become more aligned. Practice long deep breaths with your child and encourage them to close their eyes and remain focused on the breath.
Letting your child think and process things freely will give them the best chance to be able to understand their own thoughts, take a break from studying and let them explore at their own pace. Giving them that space and freedom to do what they choose is also a core part of letting a child know their own abilities, how they should practice to be mindful and to think more positively.
