Toy Review : Magformers Constructions Sets – The Perfect Christmas Gift

As a mum of three, I’ve bought my fair share of toys for the kids. In fact, I’ve probably bought most people’s share! Our house is full of toys, most of which barely get played with.

That’s why I was excited to receive some Magformers toys to try out.

Magformers are a multi award winning toy company who specialise in construction toys aimed to increase creativity and brain activity in children. The sets consist of simple geometric shapes that can easily connect using built-in magnets.

We were thrilled to receive the Mini House Set and the Power Sound Set.

The Mini House Set

The Mini House Set consists of 42 pieces comprising of magnetic squares and triangles, along with windows, door, balcony and trees.

It comes with suggestions of buildings and various 3D shapes to make, along with pictures to make 2D objects.

It’s aimed at children aged 3 and over, so our three year old was the perfect tester!

After initially trying to wear the magnetic squares as a bracelet, she soon got the hang of connecting the pieces together to make shapes. She is still very young and so perhaps lacks the patience to follow the instructions to make the 3D houses but enjoyed putting them together to make her own creations! Despite that she did (with some help from me!) manage to create a house, complete with trees!

She did find it easier to find the shapes to create the objects from the pictures. There was a few different pictures for her to try which kept her amused!

Power Sound Set

Just the packaging on this set makes the whole thing look impressive! As with the first set, it contains the geometrical magnetic shapes but it also includes wheels to create a variety of different vehicles.

What really stands this set apart though, is the sound generator. It plays the sounds of a moving train, an aeroplane or a police siren. You can also record your own sounds to play alongside your creations.

You can also add blinking LED lights for additional effect.

My older two are seven and nine and had a great time making their own creations. My youngest enjoyed following the instruction guide and creating different vehicles. Meanwhile my eldest likes to consider himself a master builder and prefers to use his imagination when making his own creations.

That’s the beauty of these sets. They’re perfect for those who prefer to follow instructions, or those who prefer to make their own creations. There’s not many toys that are suitable for all three of my children, but Magformers have proven to be a success all round.

It’s a simple but fantastic idea. Each piece is made to a really high quality with smooth and rounded edges. I’ve found in the past that cheaply made toys can have rough parts and flaws in the plastic but that’s certainly not the case here.

We definitely couldn’t recommend the sets enough. The perfect Christmas present!
